It's been nine years...

...since I first set foot in BITS. I don't know why I had this incredible urge to visit the campus this time when I was in India. In any case, I had a standing invitation from Kiran, who lives in Delhi, for a weekend trip to Pilani whenever I was in town. So, we planned it out and my brother and I flew into Delhi on Friday night, the 4th of March.

The next morning, after loitering around Delhi for a short while, we set out for Pilani in Kiran's Zen. The Delhi - Gurgaon - Jaipur expressway was impressive and we zipped along at a fair clip even after we exited onto a state highway. It was about 10 kms away from Chirawa, when we crossed into Rajasthan, that the road suddenly disappeared from under us and a flood of bumpy memories were jolted out from the forgotten reaches of our brains. To cut a long and excrutiatingly slow journey short, it was evening by the time we reached the campus and checked into the VFAST Guest House.

Finally, we set out to rediscover our old habitat and reminisce the best four years of our lives...

(You should start reading the blog from the bottom as that's the order in which I have posted the pics and my notes.)

Excellent stuff - sure evoked a sense of nostalgia and some fond memories. It's been 10 years since our batch left BITS (and 14 since we started). This definitely makes me want to go back for a visit.

It was a wonderful journey. Every BITSian would have associated beautifully with most of the pics. Well, as much as I would love to, going back to BITS would be difficult now. It has to be with my wingies or with "her". Going back alone would be really really painful. So, me waiting for the right time.

Thanks a lot for a short and sweet journey in time to that haven on earth - BITS, Pilani!

Well, 4 wonderful years; the best times; where we learnt to be independent; where we had to learn to live with the same set of people for good or bad; a tremendous cosmopolitan atmosphere; life was not all about ghoting, etc.

Thanks, once again.

Sure was a sweet trip to Pilani.. though you can't really say that it has been ages away from Pilani (2 years and 4 months to quote the actual figure).
I would love to get back to campus and goof around the way I did for 4 years... Hope it happens before the 25 year re-union.

Thanks a load Pushkin.. The pictures were awesome. Why'd you miss MB and ShivG though? Please tell me you have pictures of those stashed away.

Wow! I never expected my tiny little insignificant, one time blog to attract so much attention! I guess I owe it to my friend Hemchand for publicizing it.

Only eight years before there's another Pushkin at BITS!? My name sure is catching on! :-)

Prakash, I've been asking myself that question! Although the old MB hasn't changed at all, I should've taken a few of the new one. I guess I was gawking too much and clicking too less ;-)

We went by ShivG in the night, so it was too dark, and we probably would've been beaten up if we tried to take pics then (if you know what I mean!)

I never could have imagined one small mail to an internal microsoft bitisian alias on a tuesday evening would start a chain reaction like this. The very next day morning, when I saw a mail on BITSAA-Hyd mailing list about this, I imagined how quickly this traveled. Now you know why Microsoft stock price has been stand still for last 5 years. :)) ...Just kidding. I guess, actual reason is our BITSian enthu and keep it up guys.

Also I think Pushkin is too humble to give me credit here, but the fact still remains that his compilation of this blog is simply outstanding. I came across a lot of guys posting BITS photos on web but no body was creative enough to provide a good commentary that rewound our nostalgic memories.

Pushkin: I am sure you have more pics that you are hiding from us ;-). It doesn't make sense to me, why a person who covered every corner of campus wouldn't include MB and Shiv ji in his tour :))? Now don't give me the crap that you wrote about gawking and darkness. Come on, be a sport! :)

Pushkin .. really very nostalgic - In fact .. i was one of them - who went roaming around the entire campus ( - the night we left ) .. touching all the tangible things around ( an act to show how much i am going to miss them all ) which will be very afresh in my memory even after years . I just passed out - in 2004 -
we were among the first batch of girls who changed history - by staying in MAL - which was i suppose " The most scary bhawan " with the guys .
In fact - i was amazed by not reading anything abt that in the blog ( or did i miss it ??? )..

Thanks !!! Was in India recently but couldnt make it to Pilani but your pics did a great job. I am going to pass this to my batch user group so watch out for a few more eyes! Its been 15 years for us so may be a few more moist eyes.
Appreciate your taking the time to put up a blog about your trip... One, thing - Why the bars in the lower wings ?

Sagar,

Apparently, there had been one too many thefts in the rooms on the ground floor, especially in the new wings. So they decided to barricade the whole ground floor and restrict entry to a few gates. I can only imagine what a tremendous pain in the ass it must be.

Pushkin,

Amazing blog and excellent pictures. I am from batch of 74-75. Haven't been to BITs since I passed out.

Quick question: Is the Pappu you mentioned, the son of Kapurji who had a tea stall in Connaught.. This issue came up in our BITS yahoo group.

Thanks.
